PTC CREO Installation

PTC Creo (previously ProENGINEER) is a 3D solid modeling tool which is a competitor to DSS Solidworks and AutoDesk Inventor.  It has a major advantage of being much much smaller, so it runs on older hardware.   You can also install MathCad at the same time.

Pick 32 or 64 bit

Open "setup.exe"

Pick "Install new software" then Next

Check "I accept the software license agreement" and "By checking this box ..."  then Next

On the bottom "License Summary" put "7788@lic-creo.hir.is".  This should cause "Available" to show up under Status.  If not, you have a problem getting a license from the license server at RU.

At the Next window, you may want to isntall "PTC Mathcad" at the same time.  It is optional.

You should be able to just pick Next until it installs.

PTC University eLearning

There are 20 seats available for PTC University eLearning (online help and tutorials)

Use these instructions to access them if you are not part of a course using Creo:

1. Go to the Login page at: precisionlms.ptc.com
2. Enter your email into the Username/Email field.
3. Enter the activation code into the Password/Code field.
4. Click Submit.

Common Questions

How do I use Creo at home?

Install the VPN program at vpn.ru.is.  Start the program and connect to RU's internal network using your email username (WITHOUT @RU.IS) and password.

How do I fix the units (Inches/Pounds by default)

For all documents

Open an explorer window at C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 3.0\M010\Common Files\creo_standards

Create a command prompt running as Administrator.  I did this by typing "cmd" into the windows start menu and right-clicking to pick "run as Administrator"

cd C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 3.0\M010\Common Files\creo_standards

configure.bat

Pick the units system you want in the dialog.

Read the warning messages after it is run.

For an individual document

For each document you can have different units:

File > Prepare > Model Properties

Click "change" to the right of the Units line

Windows 10:  Why isn't mouse wheel zoom working

Turns out there's an annoying "feature" in windows 10 that interferes.

1. Start button
2. type "mouse & t" and press Enter
3. set "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" to off
